Summer in Dallas means sweating through your shirt before you even find parking - but it also means the city's event calendar goes into overdrive. Whether you're into progressive house, classic swing, murder-mystery theater, or alt-rock, there's something worth leaving the AC for this week. Here's what's on our radar.
Already Happened (But Worth Knowing For Next Time)
A couple of strong shows landed on Sunday, June 21 - just yesterday - so if you caught them, good on you. If not, file these away for when they return.
Clue - Live On Stage played a 1 p.m. matinee at the Winspear Opera House. This is exactly the kind of show to drag your theater-curious friends to - it's interactive, campy, and more fun than most "serious" stage productions. The Winspear is a gorgeous venue, and a Sunday afternoon slot makes it a genuinely easy commitment. Keep an eye out if it extends or returns.
Also at the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra: Jeff Tyzik & Paul Loren - Icons of the Strip: Sinatra & The Rat Pack ran at 2 p.m. The DSO does these themed concerts really well - it's not cheesy nostalgia bait, it's a full orchestral treatment of Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the crew. If you've never taken your parents or in-laws to a symphony show, this kind of program is the perfect entry point. Watch for similar programming in the fall season.
Sunday night had two more worth mentioning. Hernan Cattaneo played SILO Dallas at 7 p.m. - if you know, you know. The Argentine DJ is one of the most respected names in progressive and deep house globally, and SILO is one of the better rooms in Dallas for that kind of sound. These shows tend to run late and the crowd is genuinely into the music rather than just there to be seen. Worth following both Cattaneo and SILO for future dates.
Over at The Kessler in Oak Cliff, Troy Doherty played an 8 p.m. set. The Kessler is one of those rooms that makes any show feel intimate - about 400 capacity, good sound, genuinely attentive crowds. If you're not already checking their calendar regularly, start now.
Also on Sunday, TopOppGen hit the Cambridge Room at House of Blues at 8 p.m. - a smaller, more intimate stage than the main floor, which usually means a tighter, more energetic show.

This is the one to circle right now. idobi Radio Summer School: Honey Revenge, Games We Play & Winona Fighter goes Tuesday at 5 p.m. at House of Blues.
idobi Radio has been a reliable pipeline for pop-punk and alt-rock talent for years, and their touring showcases tend to punch above their weight. Honey Revenge brings melodic, hook-driven rock with genuine emotional bite; Games We Play and Winona Fighter round out a lineup that feels cohesive rather than randomly assembled. A 5 p.m. start time is earlier than most, which actually makes this a smart Tuesday option - you'll be out at a reasonable hour on a weeknight.
If you've been meaning to catch some live rock but haven't found a reason to brave a weeknight show, this is it. Grab tickets before the day-of markup kicks in, and don't skip the opener - lineups like this are curated, not padded.
